About Madeline Island
The largest of the 22 Apostle Islands, located in beautiful Lake Superior at the northern tip of Wisconsin, Madeline is a place rich in culture, history and natural beauty. The island’s storied past includes the Ojibwe as well as other native peoples, French explorers and missionaries, British and American fur traders, summer residents, and today – 300 or so year-round citizens.
Although just a short ferry ride from Bayfield, the island feels “a world away” from the daily cares of mainland life. Cross the water, explore our forest trails, walk along the beach at Big Bay, or stroll through town and just relax.
Here daily life unfolds in a simple way at a pace that we call “Island Time." Come see for yourself and experience the magic of the island that we call home – Madeline.
